The coastal waters of Buzzards Bay, which lies between the Massachusetts south coast and Cape Cod, offer a natural laboratory for the project’s three themes: sea-level rise and coastal flooding; coastal water quality and ocean acidification; and ocean climate warming and fisheries. The orientation and shape of Buzzards Bay, a relatively shallow, south-facing funnel shaped bay, makes the area one of the most vulnerable to hurricane-induced storm surge along the eastern U.S. seaboard.
