Kaushal’s research is centered around better understanding the ocean’s role in Earth’s (past and current) climate system and applying this knowledge to celestial bodies that may potentially have oceans. Currently, he is examining the ocean’s circulation on ice-covered moons in our solar system, e.g. Europa and Enceladus.

Jeff is interested in understanding the role of the ocean in global change change, using a hierarchy of ocean-only and coupled earth system models. Recent work has focused on passive heat uptake versus active ocean circulation changes in a warming world.
