A Global Resource

The oceans are a vast repository of many vital resources: oil, gas, minerals, fish and, of course, water. The oceans also are used by millions for recreation. They facilitate a global trade and travel network that remains vibrant well after the advent of air travel. Yet, all of this would be impossible without the technology that enables us to utilize our oceans.

Whether it’s designing new ships and automated hull-cleaning systems or developing tools to probe undiscovered oil resources off the coasts, our researchers and engineers are striving to make the most of the bounty the sea offers.
